Poems by Julia H
age 13

Julia is an expressive young writer who can write great poetry,
but does not usually choose to share them. Her song and poem,
"Try to Understand" is written to the victims of
Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Try to Understand

Babies will be born;
People will die.
Families will be torn,
but you just need to try
to understand
this rocky land.

I know times have been tough,
and the goings are rough,
but things will get better,
even if your cheeks get wetter.
You may cry,
but you still need to try
to understand
this rocky land.

I know times have been tough,
and the goings are rough.
Hey! Things might get worse.
People might get taken off in a hearse.
Everything is gonna be all right.
Just try to make it through the night.
Try to understand
this rocky land.

I know times have been tough,
and the goings are rough.
But just try...
