This site had been online for about a year but was receiving no traffic because of a lack of links pointing at the site and the filenames and titles set up with the words "product page" or numbers instead of keywords and a lack of proper keywords on the home page or links to individual products. Links to the inside pages were also in images. Description tags had not been employed so search engines were picking up the first text on the page which was not descriptive of the contents.
The text on home page was the same as the about page (duplicate content). The product page was not displaying properly in all browsers and the site also forced people to register before using the PayPal links which deterred sales. The site also had a diffrent layout on various pages.
Being as the filenames needed to be changed and the site had virtually no traffic and the owner only wanted to use PayPal I also changed the extensions from .php to .html and redirected the old pages to the new. This site also had cannonical problems (split domain) which were fixed with the redesign and multiples of orphan pages no longer in use which were deleted. We changed the design slightly, improved navigation and ordering of products, added CSS, new pages and new products.
RESULT: This website's keyword ranking took right off in about 2.5 weeks. Within 3 months the traffic increased 10 fold.
