This site was originally designed in frames with links in Javascript so only the home page was indexed and it was only ranking for the business name.
The titles were all the same and there were no description tags. If the site hadn't been build in frames these might have been picked up in the search engines (and either penalized or caused a reduction in rank). The site also had several duplicate home pages which were indexed in Google and likely caused a penalty.
There was hidden text on all product code links to the shopping cart (for bookkeeping purposes) so it was a good thing the site was in frames otherwise the site could have been banned.
The site appeared to have adequate backlinks at first glance but those turned out to be mostly from their parent site which had site wide links to this site. The site was 11 years old so was severaly crippled by a lack of links also.
The site was totally redesigned and went online 6-28-07 with static web pages, adding several new pages. Google picked up all new pages within 3 weeks and old or duplicate pages were removed via redirects in htacess.
Traffic trippled within 4 weeks with no increase in backlinks. Now ranking for product keywords but it will take several months for the search engines to pick up all changes and allow the site to rank for it's major keywords.
