Optimum Size Web Pages

Most HTML validator programs will tell you that the optimum size for designing web pages is about 40 K. This means you can probably have a logo, several small graphics and a few paragraphs of text on the home page and that's about it. The menu bar, footer, header and logo take up a lot of memory and these usually occur on every page of the site so you need to keep this in mind when designing web pages and pare these down as much as possible.

Instead of using JavaScript for mouseovers CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) can be utilized which shortens the length of time for the page to load. A smaller size logo on the inside pages will also save memory or you can run your images thru a graphics program to reduce the colors, DPI and other means to reduce the Ks. Javascript scrollers, animations, applets and mouseover links should only be used on inside pages because they take longer to load--unless you have enough memory available on the home page.

Another thing to consider is Keyword Density. The less words you have on the page the higher your keyword density. Sites that have mainly pictures and very little text can rank very high for their keywords but it's harder for content rich sites to rank that high because of so many words unless they increase their keyword density.
